Admissions Policy
Please note that admissions requirements may differ based on the program of study. However, this policy addresses the minimum admission requirements and process for our Diploma and Certificate programs. Please contact an admissions advisor to discuss admissions requirements specific to your program of study. This policy does not apply to admissions for our Micro Credentials.
Overview:
Generally, students at Private Career Colleges in Alberta can be categorized as two types of applicants:
Standard Applicant
Mature Applicant
Based on the type of applicant you are, the minimal admission requirements can differ.
General Admission Requirements:
All applicants must be over the age of 18 (or over the age of 19 if from B.C., New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Northwest Territories, Nunavut or Yukon)
All applicants must be either Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents
All applicants must provide documentation to satisfy the Education and English Proficiency requirements for a successful admission. These can look different for a Standard or Mature applicant. This is discussed below.
All applicants must conduct a successful interview with the admissions department. This interview will evaluate applicant suitability as well as English Proficiency levels.
Proof of Education:
Standard Applicant
Alberta High School Diploma (or non-Alberta equivalent), verified by transcript; OR
Successful completion of the General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D)
Please note that high school diplomas that are not from Canada must be verified through IQAS or WES.
Mature Applicant:
Successful completion of an academic achievement test such as Wonderlic SLE or SLE(Q) with a passing score. Note: passing scores can differ based on the program.
English Proficiency Requirement:
All applicants must meet the minimum English Proficiency requirements for a successful admission. These requirements can be met with ONE of the following:
Successful completion of Grade 12 Alberta English Language Arts (or non-Alberta equivalent)
Transcripts, demonstrating the successful completion of, at minimum, one year or two full-time semesters of post-secondary education at an institution where English is the primary language of instruction;
Achieving a score corresponding to the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 7 in one of the following assessments:
IELTS Academic - Minimum overall score of 6.0
CELPIP Academic - Minimum overall score of 7.0
Pearson Language Assessment - A minimum score of 59
CAEL - Minimum score of 50
Duolingo - Minimum score of 105
